Old Hill Primary School workshop 2023

In November 2023 we went to Old Hill Primary school to deliver an assembly followed by workshops with the Year 5s and Year 6s. Our assembly focussed on Indian classical music, Taiwanese music, as well as Jazz and Opera. We were joined by vocalist/composer Gabriella Lliandu, and violinist Yu-Jhen Dai. During the assembly we created music with the whole school, and explored the music of Ganavya and Facesoul.

After the assembly we were able to work with the Year 5s and 6s to dive into more detail of the music we explored in the assembly. We were incredibly impressed by all of the ideas and the music the children created, and cannot wait to go back in 2024!

"We Are Birmingham", BMAG Residency

In 2022 we took part in the residency placements at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery for the exhibition titled "We Are Birmingham". The focus of the residency was a celebration of Birmingham and we celebrated local Birmingham based musicians and their practice.

Joined by Helena Margarida, and David Cefai we explored their heritages of Fado and Portuguese folk songs as well as Desert Blues, as well as Indian Classical music. Within the two days the public joined us in the music making, creating a collaborative opportunity of community celebration and learning.

Through this project we were able to bring more diverse music straight into the heart of Birmingham, and reflect the music of our city with the people of our city.

eArly Years superhero workshop

August 2022 brought our first Superhero workshop for early years. We combined music and storytelling to create an interactive adventure where all attendees became their own superhero. Joined by local musician and composer, Millicent James, we explored the sounds of the cello and French Horn and composed music with the children along the way!
